Deutsch“Main” attractions in Frankfurt
My Germany tour starts in the middle of the country, in the financial center of Germany, Frankfurt/ Main. For all those you only have a short stay, here are the main sights worth to see in the city. All the places are within walking distance or a short metro ride.
Talking about public transportation. the fare for a single ticket for a ride with bus, metro and S-Bahn is 2,75 Euro, from the airport the rate is 4,55 Euro.

Bring international student ID if you have, then the entry is just about 3 Euro. And those are well spent.
The Metro station to hop off is Willy-Brandt-Platz. Walk across the bridge to the other side. Directly on the other side of the river is the German Movie Museum with its big glass doors on the right side of the bridge. The evolution of cinematography is explained from past to present and really worth a visit.

Städel Gallery
If you are more interested in arts and paintings then rather visit the famous Städel Gallery. An impressive exhibition with magnificient works of Monet and other famous painters.The entrance is hefty, 14 Euros for adults and 12 Euros for students. So don’t forget to bring your student ID.
“Main” river bank and the iron bridge
Just in front of the Movie Museum is the Main river. Enjoy beer or ice cream on the river bank with a splendid view towards this hectic metropolis. From the river bank, walk further and stroll across the old iron bridge with its hundreds of locks to visit the Römer square.

By the metro, exit at “Hauptwache” and walk to the square and the and the nearby church. Of course the visit is for free.The old houses include the old townhall from the 15th century, called Römer. It is assumed that the name is derived from Italian merchants that presented their goods in the town hall. The historic architecture somewhat doesn’t match with today’s busy city.

Frankfurt is famous for its financial sector. If you have time then visit the stock market. However, you need to register at least one day prior to your arrival. On the day of the visit, bring your ID. The good thing: the tour is free.

Skydeck
For amazing views of the skyline of Frankfurt, the Zeil gallery is the place to go, especially for sunsets. Take a metro or walk to the metro station “Hauptwache”. Don’t enter the Galleria Kaufhof. The Zeil Gallery is directly on the right side next to it. The escalators bring you to the 7th floor with the Astoria Cinema’s prestigious bar on the roof top. However, don’t feel distracted by the crowd and walk your way up the view deck since the entrance is free as well. Just enjoy the view as long as you wish.

Goethe Museum
If you are into poetry and German authors, you should visit the birthplace of one of the most famous German poets. For students, the entrance is 3 Euro. The 3 storied house tells a lot about the young life of Goethe and his family. Definitely worth the visit.

Paulskirche
From the Stock exchange it is an easy walk to the Paulskirche. The building is much more than a church, it was used during the 1840s to implement a draft of the first German constitution during the revolution. Inside the church, explanations and a movie reflects the importance of the Paulskirche.
